Project Runway

Grace and I love Heidi Klum's Project Runway. We are anxiously awaiting the next season. I especially adore Tim Gunn. He has the best taste and a tender heart. There are not many people that will tear up over fashion, but Tim Gunn will and that makes me smile.

Lately Grace has expressed an interest in fashion design. In order to pursue that dream you must know how to sew and sew well. I have no talent what so ever in that area, so like everything else we pay to have someone to teach us.

We embarked on our first sewing class. I was happy to see that we were the only 2 signed up and it was basically like private lessons. Our teacher taught us the importance of proper measuring. She explained that the measurements used to make garments were different than those in the store. I starting questioning where she was going with this. Then she said that we are much larger than the store sizes, and that the stores were just trying to sell women clothing. The smaller the size, the more we buy. DUH!!! I totally get that, but I don't want to hear it.

The moment I was afraid of arrived. She measured us to get our "real" sizes. It is all down hill from here. I won't bore you with the details, but I will share this one bit. Grace is tiny, tiny, tiny, and according to our teacher I hold all my weight in my thighs. I pretty much checked out there.

In this class we will learn to make a skirt. I am actually really psyched about learning to sew. It is something I have always wanted to do and its great time for the girls to hang. I asked the teacher if I could make a tennis skirt and I think that threw her off a bit. So, I am sticking with a traditional A-Line.

Grace has a definite sense of style and maybe this will be something she loves. I am finding that as she matures, her interests continue to change. You never know what God has wired your kidos to do. Instead of stressing about it, I find its better to let it flow on its own.

Maybe someday she will be on project runway dressing her mom with the "thigh" issue. Regardless it is time well spent with the girl I love.

kudos to you for actually letting her measure you! i would have definitely taken a pass on that one and continued to live in my 'retail dream world'. i don't even let them weigh me at the doctor's office.

love you all!

That's sounds like a blast! My mom showed me how to use a sewing machine when I was little and I used to draw in sketch books, all my designs. So much fun.
By the way, I think grace is very style savvy - I mean, look at her Mom!
