10K

Some days I consider myself to be a feminist. Today was one of those days. My definition of a feminist may differ from Webster's, but it works for me.

I believe that socially, politically, intellectually and spiritually women and men are equal. I believe God created men and women out of his own image, so we are equal in His eyes and should be equal in the worlds eyes. With that being said... I believe women have a gift and that gift is to know when to let men rise to the occasion. Here are some examples:

Killing insects, rodents, and reptiles
Going to War
Going to the store when we forget something
Protecting us
Loving us when we spend too much
etc... the list goes on and on

Today I was overwhelmed with pride to be a woman. My neighbor Heidi and I are training for Columbus Marathon. There was a 10K race today that was women only in support of cervical cancer. We signed up with my friend Maureen and her sister Terri.

I must tell you a little about the team.

Heidi: Moved to Mason last July, 8 months pregnant with her third. Who moves in the third trimester unless forced. She gave birth to a darling red head named Ella in late July. Heidi was not a runner (she is now) and we decided to start running together. After a month or so we decided to train for a mini-marathon.

Maureen: Works with me at CCHMC. She is an incredible nurse who is completely devoted to her patients and families. She is my work mom, who keeps me updated, out of trouble, and always laughing. She has the most attractive sons and daughter-in-laws ever. They all work-out, run, and do outdoorsy stuff together. Maureen's famous quote is..."When you are my age, its not about what your body looks like, its about what your body can do!" I love that.

Terri: Is Maureen's sister who I have always heard about but met for the first time today. She is a cancer survivor and a hospice nurse. What more do I need to say.

The four of us meet this morning to start our race. As stated earlier this is a woman's only event. There were women of all ages, shapes and sizes. As we started the race I noticed several senior citizens running. I want to be like that when I reach that age. There were lots of hoochy mama's, over weight women, and the ones who look so good it makes your stomach turn.

Regardless it was lovely to see a crowd of women running with their husbands, son's, father's and friends cheering on the sidelines.

Heidi and I ran the whole way and went bra shopping afterwards. It was a great morning and its great to be a woman!!

I love when I feel connected to myself and other women like that. Next time there is a (shorter) marathon...wait, is that even possible?... I would like to try one with you. Don't worry, you can beat me and I'll still be your favorite sister-in-law. :)
