MADE IT

Well, today was quite the adventure. We are finally at Tony's Inn and I am taking a minute to post an update. I left my home this morning at 0445 and the roads were still awful. My roommate Diana and her husband George picked me up. There was a good 2 inches left on the highway. The flight was uneventful. I tried to sleep b/c I didn't sleep at all last night.

So Belize, the airport is small and rural. We all arrived in our bright orange shirts and I think we were scary to the locals. I was scared of myself. It was SO hot. I know those of you in Ohio are rolling your eyes, but it is hot.

After waiting an hour or so for our vans we loaded up and headed to the hospital. Here are some facts about Belize that I was unaware of:

  • There is only ONE paved road in the country

  • There are no road signs

  • There are no rules

  • There are dogs everywhere (skinny dogs)

  • There are children everywhere

  • The hospital is PINK! LOVE THAT!

  • At night, people don't always use headlights.

Within five minutes of driving our van ran out of oil. Rasta gas man helped us with that situation. That is really all. Except there are fires all over the place because they burn sugar cane to kill the snakes. I will send more tomorrow.

Go girl! Send some warmth up here! We are getting another inch of snow tonight. If our kids don't go to school I may come join you :) You are going to do so much good there in a weeks time. I will say my prayers for your entire group!

I'm so glad you made it safely and yes, I did roll my eyes at how "HOT" it is down there - it's still a wintery mess here. It is incredible what you are doing and I can't wait to hear about all of the wonderful things you do for the people of Belize. Try to work a fruity drink into your busy schedule of doing God's work!!

You look good in orange! Glad you had a safe trip -- not talking about flying, but driving. Watch out for those snakes. If need be smoke sugar cane. We're freezing, but a heatwave is on its way -- 45 degrees. Remember sweating is the best way to detox -- so says my health crazed friends. I don't do sweat -- just shiver and chatter.
Let's celebrate with a cold ice cream from Aglemesis when you come home. Love you!
