My First Day

As I drove my mom-mobile to my first day of class, I felt confident. I forgot how crazy the first day of school is on a college campus. There were Freshman mixer's in the green spaces, news cameras interviewing students, and every parking place was taken. I was not going to allow my shiny, new mini-van get scratched by some young college kid driving a 89 Toyota. I drove and drove with no luck. Eventually, I parked in the far back of the lot.

My class was in the library which I couldn't find for about 10 minutes. We were teleconferencing with 2 other groups in Ohio. We could see all of them and they could see all of us. It's a bit distracting but doable. The students ranged from a nurse with 3 years experience to 31 year veteran of the profession. Many joked that when they finish with their MSN it will be time to retire.

Our professor is a nurse who is working on her Doctorate. She is also a Sister. I love it, I am getting the whole Catholic package. If you like old movies, rent The Nun Story with Audrey Hepburn. It a lovely story about a nun who wants to be nurse, but falls for the doctor. Great love story, similar to mine minus the Nun part.

Our professor explained that we would be doing many reading and writing assignments. Maybe I will finally learn how to write correctly. We are also required to write a weekly journal. This entry does not have to be about anything in particular and it is not graded. It like my blog!

After class I felt a bit buzzed, like the first time I assisted in surgery. I was made to be in medicine and wished I'd had the confidence at a younger age. My dream of being a surgeon is not going to happen but I am going to get as close as I can.

As I leave school, I passed a house full of guys assembling what looked like a water slide out of the second story window. You would only see that on a college campus. It made me smile, thinking of all the incredibly stupid stunts I pulled when I was their age. This time around, I hope to enjoy the ride and leave the beer bongs to the youngsters.

Good Luck! You, Joel and Bethany are truly inspiring - all of you pursuing your dreams. I am attempting to jump on the bandwagon next week. We'll see how that goes!
