Mini-Van Mom

For those of you wondering what happened with the car situation, here you go....

Yesterday I arrive at work and made a few calls to other dealerships to see if they had any 2009 Odysseys left. Meanwhile, my co-worker is trying to talk me into any other car besides the mini-van. Honestly, I looked and I still wanted the Odyssey. Crazy huh?

Many dealerships had baby blue or white Odysseys and I just couldn't do it. If I am driving this "mom" mobile for the next 8 years it can not be baby blue. I decided to call Florence,KY to see what they had. Maybe Odyssey's weren't as popular across the river. A man named Quaid answered the phone. I said "did you say Quaid?" and he replies "Yes, like Dennis Quaid." I laughed and thought, Oh here we go again.

Quaid only had a white Odysseys to offer me. I said no can do Mr. Quaid, I need black or silver. He called me back an hour later and said he had a black Odyssey that they would trade another KY dealership for. They needed a $3000.00 deposit.

I was hesitant to call Bryan at work. The night before almost put him over the edge. I called him when I was working with the drunk salesman and he was getting ready to intubate someone. He reminded me that someone had to pay for the car and that someone was working. I called anyway.

Bryan and Quaid became fast friends and the deal was done. We were going to leave about 3:30 and drive to KY to pick up the car. As I am leaving the hospital Bryan calls my phone. He is laughing, and tells me Quaid just called and the dealership in KY sold the black Odyssey to someone else. I am not laughing. How could this happen twice. We had an easier time buying a Wii at Christmas than this stupid car.

We meet at home and after talking to yet 2 more dealerships. Quaid ends up coming through. Feeling horrible, his manager gave us a 2010 model for the same price we were going to pay for the 2009. Bryan told Quaid to have the back of the van stocked with cases of Heineken.

I forgot how long it takes to buy a car. By the time we got down to Florence it was 6:30 pm. Quaid looked to be about 18 years old. He was very professional and we liked him instantly. All was good.

Clay had tagged along with us while Grace was at soccer practice. Knowing this could take some time I had Clay bring his Nintendo DS to keep him entertained. I went out to the Suzuki to clean out all the Legos, pens, receipts and other garbage that had accumulated over the last 8 years. Clay ran out to help me and together we brought the garbage in.

As we were speaking to Quaid, Clay runs over and says his DS is missing. We looked everywhere. He had left it by the toy section of the dealership when he came out to help me with the car. After searching everywhere and asking everyone, we accepted that strong possibility that someone snatched it.

Clays said that it was the mean girl who took it. I said "what mean girl?" "The one in the ugly, black clothes!" Clay replied.

Bryan then said he remembered the girl standing back by the toys. They had left suddenly and we all just knew that she took it. We were totally profiling, but it helped at the moment. Quaid said he had just sold them a car and they were supposed to come back. The girl comes back with what we thought was her Dad, but it was her husband. Remember we were in Kentucky. She does have a black shirt on with a big picture of Heath Ledger in his joker get up. I totally understood why Clay said she was mean.

Quaid, being the sly salesman that he is walks up to them and said, "Hey, did you happen to see a DS game laying around, this little boy can't find his and we are asking everyone?"

No lie..... the joker girl pulls it out of her bag. She did take it. Then she came up with some lame excuse about wanting to find who it belonged to. It did not matter. I sincerely thanked them and we used it as a huge teaching lesson for Clay.

Quaid then walks up to Bryan with a cold case of Heineken. He and Bryan sat and talked about marriage, fiances, life in general. Quaid asked Bryan how he became so financially smart. I think Bryan was in heaven. He could of stayed all night.

The car buying experience overall was not fun, but in the end we all left happy. Bryan was able to share his wisdom with an eager young mind, Clay got his DS back, and I now have XM radio.

When I married Bryan I we started off with a Black Mercedes Coupe. Eight years later I am the mini-van Mom I swore I wouldn't become. I wouldn't change a thing!!
