Today I was excited to start off with several Ortho cases. First day in the OR. I was circulating for Dr. Thomas which is my favorite job in the OR. Our patient was a 67 year old lady with knee pain who wanted to dance again. Unfortunately, our equipment that we shipped from the states didn't work. We tried and tried and could not get it to work and ended up canceling the case. Dr. Thomas gave her a healthy portion of local to help with her pain. We spent the next 3 hours on the phone with the Strkyer rep from the U.S. Some new equipment will be shipped tomorrow.
On the good side. I was able to circulate in ENT, go through all the OR supplies and organize. I love to organize. Then we had a man come to the clinic who had a dis-located elbow. After pushing it back into place h told us his story. He is a konch diver. He dives 50 feet down into the ocean to retrieve konch. He was so grateful that he promised to bring us some konch to the hotel.
The OR team is exactly that an OR team. We are OCD, rude, somewhat overbearing. We all ride in a van together and boss eachother around. My family would be glad to know that I keep quiet. I am actually one of the introverts. I did get really worked up with my 11 month old child who I recovered from surgery was not properly medicated. He was screaming and to be short so was I. He is better now.
On the way home tonight we saw a man bound and gagged in the back of a pick-up truck. No lie. Lupita our hostess brought us homemade Flan and Tamalas. They were delicious.

Angie, It sounds like you're having an experience, to say the least. Imagine the missionaries who commit their whole lives to it! Rest in the fact that you are helping so many people. Remember your light! (It may shine brighter once the monster leaves.) The 15 year old with the melanoma is such a sad story. I'm assuming his prognosis is poor. Well, keep your knees to the floor and your eyes above. You are storing up some great treasures this week!! Keeping you in my prayers, Cheryl
